Update on Baby Barn Swallows

The baby Barn Swallows by our front door are growing by leaps and bounds.  We expect them to fly out of the nest within a week.  These are pictures from last week, before we left on a long weekend trip.
(Don't forget to click on the pictures to get a closeup view)
Notice how the baby birds still look pruny and like beef jerky.  I love their heads in the 6/26 and 6/27 pictures where they have a little puff ball of hair on top of their heads.

The 'family portrait' was taken at night.  For some reason, the mom will not fly away when we open the door at night and we get the best photos then.  This night when I would focus my camera on the birds, the light from the autofocus would stir them up and they would 'cheep' like crazy.  I love how Momma Bird is looking at me like "Really?!  I just got them tucked into bed and you're getting them all riled up!"

The following pictures were taken yesterday and today.  Notice how different the baby birds look!

I had to stand very still at the front door with camera ready in order to snap these pictures.  The babies have now been trained to watch out for danger.  (On that note, one of the babies has perished.  We found it out in the yard.  We're assuming he fell out of the nest.) If the momma bird even saw our form through the glass door, she would fly up and then immediately fly away.

Oh! I almost forgot.  Look at this really cool Moth I found on the front porch when taking pictures of the birds.

"Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?"
Matthew 6:26

Oops, just realized I didn't put the right picture up. I had added captions. Now it's up there. :)
