JUST a mom

Yesterday, I (Kathy) had a dr. appointment and the kind lady taking my information asked if I had a 'job'. When I replied 'homemaker', the very sweet young woman said "Sometimes I dream what it would be like to JUST be at home" **smile**......

Quickly, thoughts of 7 children coming in covered in grassy mud after going on the slip N slide, the pipe that burst in the ceiling downstairs and sprayed the basement from top to bottom flooding it last week (while Andy was at work!), the pipe that burst under the kitchen sink the week before that, children throwing up in their beds, two cartloads of groceries in the hot commmissary, toddlers screaming in time-out, homeschooling 4 children through tough math and spelling lessons, stinky soccer cleats, surviving deployment, etc. etc. and I smiled and said
"I LOVE it! Best job there is" :-)

And I mumbled something about how when on the very few times I had worked outside the home after having children, how I always longed to be home with them too. And in ALL honesty, I was pretty surprised at what she had just said--most often you hear something like "Oh, that's a job, for sure!"  And YES, bless her heart (that's for Trisha), of course I realize she was not trying to be rude at all, but I know my other mommy friends appreciate the thoughts that went through my mind about how it might not be quite as easy as this young lady imagined.

And I really meant what I said.  It really IS the best job there is for me.  I love my children and truly love being home with them.  I'm so thankful that we have been blessed where I am able to do that.  I'm so thankful for a husband that works long 14 hr days, 5 days a week in order to provide for us.  I'm thankful for him being willing to serve in the military to protect us and the country we live in.  I'm honored to serve him and our Lord by taking care of our family.

I know there are times when I feel lonely or frustrated and, sadly, there were even times I felt I was being held back.  But I have learned over the years that Motherhood really is a very High calling.   It is Andy and my responsibility to teach our children and train them up in the way of the Lord.  They are living arrows we are shooting into the future to carry God's Word and His Message to generations after us.

Thank you, Father for this WONDERFUL calling you have given me.  Thank YOU for letting me be JUST a mom!

"Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies. The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil.  She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life."
Proverbs 31:10-12
