When I was about Rachel's age, I learned how to make tissue paper roses. I remember loving making them and, when made carefully, they actually look very realistic. I haven't made them in several years so I remembered the basics of how to make them, but wanted to make sure of exactly how to do it. So, with a little research to make sure of the instructions, we bought all of the supplies and got to work yesterday making special roses for some very special ladies.
(Our little neighbor friend Rebecca came over to play and got in on helping to make them as well. And Nathan got a little goofy-as always)
We made 30 flowers (the ones that turned out well and looked like roses-we called roses. The ones that didn't quite look like roses-we called flowers :) We took a picture of them on our way to church this morning.
For safety and privacy of the residents we did not take pictures of them when the kids presented their roses to them. However, I'm sure you can imagine their very bright and smiling faces when they received these from the kids. It brought tears to my eyes to see how happy they were and to think that it reminded them of when their own babies were little and would bring them precious homemade gifts or fresh picked bouquets of flowers from the front yard. We thank God for these precious women and are so glad that He has allowed them to be a part of our lives for this season.
For those who might be interested in making this very fun and simple craft, this was the best website I found for making them the way I learned how to years ago. You can find the instructions here.
