Sketti Pockets

So, today we had leftover spaghetti from supper last night.  I really, REALLY hate throwing food away but there also wasn't quite enough for everybody to have their fill.  So, I decided to be creative and came up with something the kids actually LOVED.  So, of course, we named it and decided to share it with you all.  This is definitely something we will do again.

Sketti Pockets

1 bowl of leftover spaghetti noodles with the leftover sauce/meat mixed in.
1-2 cans of crescent rolls (I used 2 for my crew-which made 16-and they are all gone)

*So, I took the crescent rolls and laid ONE out and sortof mashed it a little-just a little-to make a bigger surface area.

*Then, I took a fork and rolled spaghetti around it until I had a good bite sized bit of a roll.

*I very carefully slid the roll off onto the larger end of the triangle.

*Then, since my sauce had meat in it, I added a little dollup of meat right in the middle of the noodles.  Then, you can put just a tiny bit of your choice of shredded cheese right there in the middle too.

*Take the two corners from the wide end (where the spaghetti is) and fold them to where the point is in the middle of the spaghetti pile.

*Take the other, long end of the roll and fold it tightly over the spaghetti pile.  Roll it on around to the backside and you now have a pocket.

*If you like, you can put a little bit of shredded cheese on top here and it bakes on nicely.

*Repeat until you've used up all of your crescent rolls or spaghetti mixture.

*Bake these at 375 for about 14 minutes-or however long it takes your oven to make yummy crescent rolls.

(you can see a little spaghetti on the left-the kids had fun helping me roll these)

Enjoy!!!

**Side note here...when I folded these, they looked like diapers :)  I even joked to the kids about how we should call them "spaghetti diapers"...which made for all sorts of wonderful lunchtime conversation.  Thus prompting me to seek out a new name for our cuisine.

**Another note:  I did a very similar thing once with leftover Sloppy Joes.  I put the crescent rolls into muffin tins and mashed them around like playdough until they fit in the muffin cup and resembled a bowl.  I filled each cup with about a tablespoon of sloppy joe/meat mix and baked.  They turned out SO yummy.  We call those "Sloppy Bowls".

Frugal, creative AND yummy! What a great idea! I'll have to remember crescent rolls for stretching leftovers. I bet you can make lots of similar items!

:) My first thought was spaghetti meat sauce-which would totally make sense. But then I remembered that I usually mix the noodles and sauce when we have leftovers so the noodles don't get all yucky. But, we decided to try it anyway and they loved it! :)

Sounds yummy!! I, too, am often looking for ways to use the leftovers.....besides the big "mommy isn't cooking, we're just eating left-overs" meal!! : )
