Wonderful Services at the nursing home

We have been having wonderful services at the nursing home.  We are slowly learning many of the residents' names and preferences.  The family that runs the ministry at the home also has another great ministry to families and to homeschool families.  They are the Maxwell Family and they have a website that publishes their blog posts and monthly articles (corners) as well as presents their books they have written at Titus2.com.  With this ministry, they are often on the road traveling to conferences and homeschool conventions.  When they are away, one of their adult children and his wife as well as another family help to run things.  Now that we are here, we also are helping while they are away.  We are lovingly referred to as "The B team".

I just wanted to take a moment and share some about our services yesterday.  I hope it will bless your hearts as it has ours.

We had a great turnout.  A kind gentleman named Luther (Mr. Luther to the kids) loves to come.  Andy said he learned that he used to be a pastor.  He loves to come to the service and has only missed once due to illness since we've been going there.  Andy went to his room to invite him to church and he was sitting eating hard candies.  He did not hesitate in leaving his candy to come to church though!

Another resident, Ms. Elizabeth has the most gentle and kind spirit.  She almost seems timid.  Every week she is just the sweetest lady.  She surprised me yesterday in that she remembered I had been absent last week! She was worried about me that I didn't feel good.   I was so blessed by that.  Here we are going to the home to try to be a blessing to them and love on them and we receive that same blessing in return.  Praise the Lord!

I met a lady yesterday that has not been at the home long.  Her name is Ms. Norma.  She was very, very coherent and carried on a lengthy conversation with me about where she lived.  She recently had back surgery and was very frustrated that it was taking so long to recover.   She seemed discouraged by it. She would have to be there at the home until she could recover fully.  Please join us in praying for her.

The biggest highlight of the day-especially for our children-was that a dear lady named Ms. Hansen was able to attend the service.  She has attended the service for a very long time but has not been able to come since we've been attending.  She had knee replacement surgery and has been recovering from that.  Our kids and the children of the other families ministering there have gone down before and after each service to visit with her and encourage her.  Yesterday morning, Rachel and the other two girls from the other family went down as usual to visit with her. When they did, she was so excited and felt well enough that she wanted to get up and come to the service!  Our girls practically ran down the hall to tell us about it.  Ms. Hansen was able to stay and visit a while after the service as well.  It was such a joy.  And it was a joy for the children to see a reward for their labor in the Lord.  They have been ministering to this dear lady and they saw how that helped in her determination to come to hear the Message yesterday.

And it was such a joy to see our children ministering to these precious people.  It is an amazing opportunity to teach our family to love the eldery and to show respect for them and their wisdom.  Please continue to pray for the ministry at the home.  It has been wonderful to be able to serve in this area and we praise God for Him putting it in our path!

"Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their afflicition, and to keep himself unspotted from the world"
James 1:27
